WASHINGTON — Rep. Tony Wied (R-WI) released the following statement after he voted to end the Democrats' shutdown after 43 days.
WASHINGTON — Rep. Tony Wied (WI-08) sent a letter to the Chief Administrative Officer of the U.S. House of Representatives requesting she withhold his pay until the government shutdown is over.
"I have been informed that despite a lapse of appropriations and current government shutdown, Members of Congress will continue receiving their salary. Please withhold my pay until an appropriations agreement has taken effect."
As of 12:01 a.m. on October 1, funding for many federal government operations has lapsed. I supported a package passed by the House that would extend current funding until November 21, 2025, but the proposal did not pass the Senate.

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Today, Congressman Tony Wied (R-WI-08) and U.S. Senator Tammy Baldwin (D-WI) introduced a bipartisan bill to honor veterans who participated in Operation End Sweep with the Vietnam Service Medal. Currently, participants in Operation End Sweep, a mission to clear dangerous mines from Haiphong harbor and surrounding waters in North Vietnam after the war concluded, are ineligible for this service medal because their service took place after the United States had officially withdrawn from Vietnam in January 1973.
WASHINGTON — Yesterday, Congressman Tony Wied (WI-08), Congresswoman Kristen McDonald Rivet (MI-08), and Congressman Max Miller (OH-07) successfully passed the Great Lakes Icebreaker Act of 2025 through the U.S. House Committee on Transportation & Infrastructure. The bipartisan legislation instructs the U.S. Coast Guard to develop a plan to design and build a new icebreaker for the Great Lakes and analyze the effectiveness of the current icebreaking fleet.
WASHINGTON — Congressman Tony Wied (WI-08) introduced legislation today to support small businesses around the United States by giving them a direct line to voice regulatory concerns, seek relief from unnecessary bureaucratic burdens, and reduce red tape.
The Destroying Unnecessary, Misaligned, and Prohibitive (DUMP) Red Tape Act will create a dedicated hotline for small business owners to report overly burdensome or unnecessary federal regulations to the Small Business Administration (SBA) Office of Advocacy.
